West Point, N.Y., was originally utilized as a strategic defense location during the American Revolution. West Point is geographically located on a 100 ft. plateau overlooking the Hudson River. After the American victory Congress created a Corps of Invalids (veterans) that were transferred to West Point for the purpose of instructing candidates for commission. John Miller Carson (b. June 26, 1864, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-d. Jan. 18, 1956), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1885. He served in Puerto Rico, the Philippines, in various positions at the Military Academy, and as chief quartermaster in France during World War I. He retired from Army service in 1922.
